Welcome to the Blaine School District

2011-12 school year

We are looking forward to an exciting and productive year for students in each of our schools and programs.

We employ one of the most skilled and dedicated group of professionals in the State of Washington.  Teachers and support staff strongly desire to work in Blaine, and many choose to spend their entire career in our District. We see this as a clear tribute to the overall quality of the program, and the commitment that we make to supporting staff in their work with our students.

Improving student learning at every level of the system remains at the heart of our mission.  Our students consistently demonstrate outstanding academic performance, comparing favorably to other districts across the State.

In the 2009-10 program year, our on-time graduation rate exceeded 90%. Concurrently, a substantially high number of students (9-12) participated in Advanced Placement (AP) courses, serving as evidence of a high level of academic rigor. Students do not achieve success at the high school level without a strong K-8 foundation. We are privileged to have excellent K-12 administrators, teachers and support personnel, who demonstrate a consistent commitment to making a difference for young people at all levels of the program.

These remain very unique and challenging economic times. The demands being placed upon school districts, specific to declining state and federal revenue, are unprecedented.  In preparation for the new school year, we have been committed to the continued ownership of staff and community in the process of establishing key system priorities.
During the 2011-12 school year, the Board of Directors will take action to bring renewal of the Maintenance and Operations levy to the voters. With continued decline in state and federal revenue to school districts, the Maintenance and Operations Levy has become an ever increasing source of the funding necessary to sustain existing programs for our students. We look forward to sharing much more information about the significance of this initiative, with our collective communities, in the months ahead.

The students and staff of the Blaine School District recognize the extensive level of community ownership and involvement that is in place at all levels of the program, and remain greatly appreciative of that support.  The communities of Blaine, Pt. Roberts and Birch Bay take great pride in the learning that takes place in their schools, and most importantly in the ongoing growth and success of students.

The employees of the Blaine School District realize how important it is to keep parents and patrons informed of key events and issues across all grade levels. To that end, we hope that you will find an opportunity to visit www.blainesd.org often, where you can learn about opportunities to stay connected to activities involving our students.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, and the staff of the Blaine School District, thank you for your continued support to the vitally important work of educating all students.

We are looking forward to a great year!
